Tree Planting at Rushe Primary School in Kyerwa: A Step Toward Environmental Sustainability
The gathering was a vivid testament to the power of collaboration in addressing global challenges. Policymakers, educators, and community members united to plant coffee trees within the school grounds and surrounding areas. This activity not only enhanced the school’s environment but also served as a practical lesson in environmental stewardship for the pupils as well as learning how important is to grow trees like coffee — it saves as a cash crop. The District Commissioner’s participation underscored the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives that align with national sustainability goals and KESU’s mission.
In her address, the District Commissioner praised KESU’s efforts and encouraged policymakers to integrate similar environmental initiatives into educational programs. “By involving children and young people in tree planting, we are fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership over their environment,” she remarked. Her call to action resonated with the audience, inspiring local leaders and educators to prioritize environmental conservation and sustainability in their communities — by not just planting trees but planting trees which produce both food and contribute to economic growth.
For KESU, this event is part of a broader mission to raise awareness about environmental conservation and how strategic tree planting is the source of both income, food, and equipping schools with resources to contribute meaningfully to sustainability. Beyond the immediate benefits of shading and beautifying the school, the trees planted at Rushe Primary School will help reduce carbon dioxide levels, prevent soil erosion, provide a source of income and food, and create habitats for biodiversity. This initiative reflects KESU’s holistic approach to development, combining education, health, and environmental protection to empower future generations.
As the day concluded, the sense of accomplishment was palpable among the participants. The event’s success underscored the importance of partnerships between policymakers, NGOs, and local communities in addressing environmental challenges. Through tree planting and other conservation efforts, Kinda Education Support (KESU) continues to lead the charge in building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
